The UKMA Finder – Backlinking Strategy part 1

Backlinking ImageIn this post I am going to share with you, the backlinking strategy I will be using to promote my Martial Arts directory.

Backlinking is the process of creating a hyperlink which is directed at your content from another website. The influence of Backlinks is a widely debated topic within the world of SEO and is constantly changing as search engine algorithms evolve. My stance on the whole backlinking topic is that although I have experienced major placement increases as a result of targeted backlinks; it must and should not be abused. There is no doubt that back links are a huge ranking factor for major search engines, none more so than Google; but recent algorithm updates such as Panda and Penguin have confirmed that Google are becoming wise to backlink abuse and you will do well to proceed with extreme caution. You do not want to wake up one morning to find your internet presence has all but disappeared as many internet marketers have experienced recently as a result of algorithm updates.

At a risk of sounding righteous, I want to just take a moment to explain that within this strategy  I will be trying to influence search engines in my favour; and I have no problem admitting that. According to search engines, the best way to acquire backlinks is to let them occur naturally over time through good content population and increasing reputation. This concept, while maybe still applicable in certain circumstances, has become a bit out of touch with reality. As with the case that to win the Tour de France in the late 1990′s you had to be using some form of performance enhancing substance, to rank highly within Google these days you need to be employing some form of backlinking strategy. While it does pain me somewhat employ a backlinking strategy, I am fully aware that if I want to succeed as a new website / business on the internet, I have got to play smart and do what it takes to succeed. Before anyone asks, No! I do not condone the use of performance enhancing drugs within sport, even if it is the only way to win at the time.

So without further ado, I would like to introduce to you, my backlinking strategy: Take a few moments to digest the image and then I go through it in finer detail.

(I am currently working on a video which will explain the whole process, Watch this space)

UKMA Backlinking Strategy

This backlinking strategy is by no means my own unique conception and is championed by many of today’s leading internet marketers. It is a method which has been tested on multiple sites throughout many different markets and appears to have pretty consistent feedback.

The main theory behind this process is that Google does not perceive it reasonable to believable that brand new websites will receive hundreds of inbound links within a matter of days since registration. Instead what this system is creating is a filter whereby well known websites are the ones who receive the quantity of links and merely pass on any aggregated “link juice” over to your site through a couple of links with focused anchor text based on quality keywords.

I like to think of the Whole process having 3 distinct elements which you can see have been marked out within the diagram

Submission Layer

The Submission layer is where we are going to create hundreds of inbound links. These links are not going to be directed at your main website but instead they are going to point to websites in what I like to call the filter layer. I will cover the filter layer in more detail but essentially, the sites and pages we are going to create in the filter layer will act as a link overload buffer to your website. It is worth noting at this point that I see no real reason why you cannot monetise the sites within the filter layer. Yes they maybe penalised by search engines initially, but eventually, they will be great additions to your empire.

The 2 main areas I am going to be covering within the submission layer are:

  • Social Bookmarking
  • Article Submission

Social Bookmarking

Social Bookmarking is the process of creating inbound links to your website through the medium of Social Media. Social Media is an extremely powerful internet marketing tool and if used wisely can generate a massive amount of revenue. I am not sure who has the most followers on Twitter in the world at present, last time I heard anything related it was Lady GaGa with about 20 million followers, just think that if she decided to market a £10 product through twitter, she would only need a success rate of 1% to generate £2 million in revenue, yes there are mitigating factors involved but essentially that is the potential. Definitely worth thinking about!

To create your own social bookmarking machine, you are going to have to create accounts within major social media websites and begin creating links. You can do this manually and it will not cost you a penny, but, it is going to take quite a lot of time to implement properly and an even longer amount of time to build the links. There are a few tools available, most of them are paid services but I will briefly cover a free tool. The 3 main tools on the market are:

Social Bookmarker – A free to use tool. Social Bookmarker allows you to create and store your logins in a central location. Submission process is quite laborious as you are required to submit each link manually. This tool currently suppots 17 social media sites and does not include

Onlywire – at $10 per month, Onlywire will allow you to create and store all of your logins in a central location. Once you have configured your login details, submission is completed at the click of a button. Currently submits to 45+ social media sites. The $10 price plan will allow you to create 1000 links per month

Bookmarking Demon – Bookmarking demon is the premium option for social bookmarking. It allows submission to over 100 sites. at $147 per year it is also the most expensive choice

Whether or not you decide to use the free method or opt for the paid solution, is up to you. Make the decision based on affordability and time-saving. My personal preference is to use Onlywire; at $10 per month it is the best solution based on affordability and more importantly, time (you will find that your time becomes your most valuable commodity)

Currently in my Onlywire subscription, I submit to 23 social Media Sites:

  • Twitter
  • Facebook
  • LinkedIn
  • Delicious
  • StumbleUpon
  • Bebo
  • Google+
  • WordPress
  • Blogger
  • Yelp
  • Google Bookmarks
  • Bibsonomy
  • Multiply
  • Friendfeed
  • LinkaGoGo
  • Hi5
  • Reddit
  • My Space
  • My Link Vault
  • AOL Lifestream
  • Tumblr
  • Tagged
  • Sonico

This is by no means a comprehensive list but is certainly a good start.

Article Submission

Article Submission is the process of creating and submitting articles to well known article directories such as Ezine Articles, Go Articles and Article Dashboard. Within this article you can then create a resource box which contains a link back to your website.

I am not going to beat around the bush on this topic. I use Unique Article Wizard (UAW) to carry out all of my article submissions. Unique Article Wizard is a paid for tool which will submit your articles to hundreds of different article websites.

When carrying out a procedure such as this, you need to be very careful not to be seen to be duplicating content. The way that UAW works is that it requires 3 unique versions of the same article which it will then submit to multiple websites of a contextually relevant nature. Once your article has been approved by UAW you can set a threshold of how many sites your article is submitted to on a daily basis. This feature is designed to draw out the process so that search engines do not become suspicious of the amount newly acquired links.

While I have experienced very good results using UAW on my sites I am always a little wary that a new search engine algorithm will come around the corner and destroy any progress I have made because of it. That is why I am opting to put the filter layer in place.

UAW is such a an important element to this backlinking strategy that I will be creating a video tutorial in the near future.

I am going to split this post in to 3 parts and call it a day for now. The first reason being that this post is getting quite long already and the second; I do not want to find myslef cutting things short.

Look out for part 2 of my backlinking strategy where I will be discussing how to configure the filter layer.
