Since starting The SEO Experiment I have been looking into various different methods of monetising my online content without paying any real attention to customer value. Yes I have always tried to write the best possible content on The SEO Experiment; but if I am totally honest, the content on my affiliate sites has been created purely with profit in mind.
One of the first things I did when creating my first monetised website, Staffordshire Fitness, was to insert my AdSense blocks into the page layout and then build the content around them. Looking back at this project I can see many mistakes but if I had to single out one in particular, which I could take forward as a real lesson learnt, it would be the decision to implement monetisation too quickly. I am by no means an expert when it comes to Internet Marketing (IM) but I am quickly realising that to be successful, you need to provide value to your reader; although this may seem like an obvious statement to make, I assure you that it is an easy step to overlook and one which many IMs fail to grasp.
Below is a great quote I heard over at Smart Passive Income and something that will be the cornerstone of my new project
“Your earnings are a by-product of how helpful you can be to your audience”
Of course the goal is still to make money with my new project but with the above quote in mind, I am going to approach it from a slightly unorthodox angle.
Below are a few things which I am going to try out to ensure that the primary focus of my new website is centred around customer value and great content:
- No monetsiation for at least 50 posts – Not a penny will be earned from this site until I have created at least 50 posts.
- No outsourced articles or content – Everything on this website will be written by myself.
- No Keyword research – This may turn out to be an unwise move but we shall see. I am only going to write about things which I think others want to read about rather than what I think I can earn from most.
- No Link building strategies – Again, could be an unwise move but I do not want to influence the popularity of the site. I will be pursuing online relationships and trying to connect with others within my chosen market but there will be no Article marketing and no social bookmarking.
What I have outlined above is probably a bit different to what you might find in the usual Internet Marketing handbook and believe me when I tell you that I’m not doing this just to be different. yes it is always a good thing to be unique but this is not about that.
I have got sites out there in the wild which are purely profit driven and I now want to create something different.
Whether it pays off or not is yet to be seen and pretty much relies on my dedication to make the project work. I’m not going to say much more on this just yet but I will keep you posted…
